Uganda's new curriculum, rolled out in February 2020, aims to equip learners with practical skills to meet labor market demands. The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) made significant adjustments, reducing teaching subjects from 43 to 21, to focus on competency-based learning

Key Features.
Emphasizes developing skills and competencies rather than just theoretical knowledge
Only 12 subjects are taught at the Lower Secondary level, with a focus on core skills
Hands-on skills training prepares students for the workforce
Changes in the New Secondary Curriculum.
- From Knowledge-Based to Skill-Based:
Develops critical thinking, communication, cooperation, and self-directing learning .
- Emphasis on Values:
Incorporates National Ethics and Values Policy, promoting respect, honesty, justice, hard work, self-reliance, integrity, and innovativeness .
- Classroom Teaching:
Reduced to five hours a day, allowing time for research, self-study, and recreation .
Assessment Criteria:
- Termly Assessments: 20% of the total marks, with project work and practical skills assessment .
- Final Examinations: 80% of the total marks, conducted by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) .
